In July–August 2000, a salvage excavation was conducted at Or ‘Aqiva (Permit No. A-3265; map ref. 1920–32/7131–42; Nagorsky 2003). The excavation, undertaken by the Israel Antiquities Authority, was directed by A. Nagorsky. It yielded a Roman-period mausoleum and fragments of sarcophagi and a hamra surface, probably a threshing floor, from the early Byzantine period. G. Finkielsztejn studied an amphora bearing a titulus pictus, G. Bijovsky studied the coins and S. Frumin studied the geobotanical evidence for the existence of threshing floors at Or ‘Aqiva.
