During May 2009, a salvage excavation was conducted in Abu Ghosh (Permit No. A-5659; map ref. 210361/634962), in the wake of damage to the site caused by construction work. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and underwritten by the contractor, was directed by I. Zilberbod, with the assistance of Y. Ohayon (administration), A. Hajian (surveying) and A. Peretz (field photography).
Two squares were opened (max. depth 4 m) east of the 2003 excavation; a layer of brown soil containing some stone collapse, as well as numerous potsherds and small finds from the Ottoman period, was exposed. Modern refuse pits and channels severed the layer in the north.
