In August 2020, a trial excavation was conducted west of the confluence of Nahal Yarmut and Nahal Yish‘i (Permit No. A-8820; map ref. 197478–555/627585–744; Fig. 1), after building remains were discovered in trial trenches prior to the construction of a water conduit beneath Highway 38. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by the National Transport Infrastructure Company Ltd, was directed by J. Tiano, with the assistance of R. Abu Halaf (administration), C. Shliker (preliminary inspections), D. Ben Ayoun (antiquities inspection), S. Halevi (photogrammetry), A. Rose (plans), as well as Z. Kanias, Y. Zelinger and A. Shadman.
