Extended report
In May 2013, a salvage excavation was conducted within at 20 Damascus Gate Street in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem (Permit No. A-6799; map ref. 22193–4/63206–7), prior to renovations. The excavation, on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by Wadi‘a el-Hilwani, was directed by Z. ‘Adawi. D.T. Ariel wrote the numismatic report, and B.J. Dolinka studied the pottery from the mamluk and Ottoman periods. The excavation uncovered a Roman-period pavement, possibly part of the Damascus Gate plaza, and a few building remains from later periods.
