The survey area (120×1,000 m) extends across a kurkar ridge in the southern coastal plain, c. 2 km northwest of Qibbuz Gevar‘am and c. 8 km east of the seashore (Fig. 1). The survey was conducted on foot along the Nahal ‘Oved channel that runs east to west and drains into Nahal Shiqma, which empties into the sea near Ziqim (Fig. 2). The southeastern part of the survey area is located within the precincts of the declared Nahal ‘Oved antiquities site where kurkar building stones, marble fragments, basalt querns, architectural remains, ashlars and remains of a pottery workshop from the Byzantine period were documented. Scatterings of small amounts of potsherds from the Byzantine period were documented on the northern and southern banks of the stream. A large potsherd scattering from the Byzantine period (Fig. 3) was documented in the southeastern part of the area (map ref. 161955/613306). It seems that a settlement from the Byzantine period, including a pottery workshop, was situated nearby.
