An area (50 sq m) was excavated and a settlement layer from the Byzantine period was exposed. The remains included a circular agricultural installation built of roughly hewn limestone (L100; inner diam. 0.3–0.4 m, outer diam. 1 m; Fig. 2), which was founded on the bedrock and is dated to the Byzantine period, and a courtyard (L102) paved with small stones and tamped dark brown earth located east and south of the installation. The eastern part of the area, which was originally lower, was leveled at the time the courtyard was paved.

Numerous small stones, dark brown soil and several potsherds that dated to the Byzantine period were found in the foundation of the courtyard’s floor (L106).
The installation and courtyard are dated to the Byzantine period on the basis of the meager ceramic finds recovered from the layer of fill.

The excavation indicates that the area was used for farming and an agricultural installation of sorts was discovered.
